En el \u00faltimo art\u00edculo hablamos acerca de los sustantivos y su clasificaci\u00f3n seg\u00fan su significado, pero dejamos pendiente el tratar sobre su g\u00e9nero (masculino\/neutro\/femenino) y su n\u00famero (singular\/plural).<\/p>\n

Hablemos del G\u00c9NERO<\/strong> de los sustantivos pues.<\/p>\n

1.- Empezaremos aclarando que solo<\/strong> son gramaticalmente neutros<\/strong> aquellos t\u00e9rminos (se trata en realidad de adjetivos sustantivados) que indican conceptos abstractos<\/strong>, y que siempre van precedidos del art\u00edculo \u201clo\u201d<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201clo bueno\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201clo malo\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201clo interesante\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201clo importante\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201clo \u00fanico\u201d<\/p>\n

2.- El resto de sustantivos (o nombres) normalmente diferencian entre masculino y femenino (g\u00e9nero) mediante el uso de morfemas flexivos<\/strong>: ninguno<\/strong>\/-o<\/strong> (para el masculino) \/\/ -a<\/strong> (para el femenino):<\/p>\n

\u201cse\u00f1or\/se\u00f1ora<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cjefe\/jefa<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cperro<\/strong>\/perra<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cgato<\/strong>\/gata<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

3.- Sin embargo, hay sustantivos invariables, llamados COMUNES<\/strong><\/span>, que presentan la misma forma tanto para el masculino como para el femenino, en cuyo caso identificaremos el g\u00e9nero correspondiente mediante el uso de determinantes:<\/p>\n

\u201cel<\/strong> artista\/la<\/strong> artista\u201d \u201cun<\/strong> artista\/una<\/strong> artista\u201d \u201ceste<\/strong> artista\/esta<\/strong> artista\u201d<\/p>\n

4.- Adem\u00e1s, hay una clase de nombres que ni siquiera con la ayuda de determinantes son capaces de distinguir entre masculino y femenino. Nos referimos a los llamados sustantivos EPICENOS<\/strong><\/span>, que designan a seres de ambos g\u00e9neros por lo que, para distinguir entre uno y otro, se acompa\u00f1an de palabras adicionales como \u201cmacho\u201d y \u201chembra\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cla tortuga macho<\/strong>\/la tortuga hembra<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cel \u00e1guila macho<\/strong>\/el \u00e1guila hembra<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

5.- Debemos, tambi\u00e9n, hacer menci\u00f3n de los HETER\u00d3NIMOS<\/strong><\/span>, que son aquellas palabras totalmente diferentes seg\u00fan hagan referencia al masculino o al femenino:<\/p>\n

\u201chombre\/mujer\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201ctoro\/vaca\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201ccaballo\/yegua\u201d<\/p>\n

6.- Por \u00faltimo, hay un grupo de sustantivos, los AMBIGUOS<\/strong><\/span>, que admiten su uso en uno u otro g\u00e9nero (lo marcan los determinantes) sin que ello afecte a su significado:<\/p>\n

\u201cel\/la mar\u201d<\/p>\n
